The colour is so deceptive! With its light straw colour and 46.2% abv, you'd be forgiven for expecting a gentle 'breakfast' dram. However, this one is big, bold and spicy!

On the nose -  butterscotch, raisin, peach and ginger. As with the majority of cask-strength whisky, this is best left to open up naturally overtime or add a drop of water, depending on the owner's preference. With time, fresh green apples come through with ripe pear and deeper peach notes and even more sweetness.

Taste - very warming and spicy. Lots of stewed fruits with the peach and pear. The smoke has married well in the cask to create a final whisp that lingers pleasantly afterwards. The dram has a luscious creamy mouthfeel and the taste just goes on and on.

It is neither overly smoky, nor hugely 'sherried', but a gorgeous combination of the two. Overall, this dram would suit those who like their whisky with character, that announces itself from the start.

Mackmyra is one of the few distilleries in the world which self-produces its smoky distillate. Both malting and smoking take place in a facility situated close to the distillery using Swedish-grown barley and peat drawn from the nearby Karinmossen (Karin bog). And to add a further Swedish dimension to the smoky flavour, the glowing peat is seasoned with brittle juniper twigs. The result is a complex, well balanced whisky with a powerful smokiness.

Bodas Mines

In the south of Gästrikland is our largest and oldest whisky warehouse located, surrounded by a mighty forest. In here, the whisky is securely matured, 50 meters below ground in the mountain. Originallly built to extract ore, the space is now given to a more precious product

The Oloroso cask is made out of american oak and then saturated with Oloroso wine to give notes of raisin, dried fruit, wine, dark chocolate and grapes. The characteristics of the cask makes for a sweet, round and mellow flavour and a beautiful dark red colour to the liquid.
